| The 1st Annual North Park Art Walk was truly a showcase of how collaboration works! Hollywood-North Park Community Association, the Koh-Varilla Guild, and NRC partnered with dozens of established professional and student artists to host a free Art Walk on October 9th-10th which attracted hundreds of attendees. Building owners along Kedzie and Bryn Mawr offered use of their storefronts and warehouses for 10 “pop-up” galleries, Northeastern Illinois University offered an outdoor children’s painting project, and Northside College Prep High School provided space for documentary film screenings. |
Early planning for the North Park Art Walk was initiated by Anna Koh-Varilla and her husband Jeffrey Hanson Varilla, sculptors from the North Park community and owners of the Koh-Varilla Guild, 5518 N. Kedzie. Their work includes the veterans’ monument bas-relief “Tribute to Freedom” and Water Wall Service Medallions at Chicago’s Soldier Field. They came to HNPCA and NRC in early spring to help them organize the Art Walk, and by mid-summer over 40 artists and artist groups had eagerly signed on.
Thank you to our many volunteers, opening night musicians, ad sales team, and businesses that sponsored the event!
