The vision of the North River Commission is to make the schools in the NRC area the best in Chicago. In recent years, NRC has made great strides toward improving educational opportunties for our young people. Accomplishments include:
- Creating the North River After School Collaborative (NRASC) to provide after school enrichment opportunities to area youth, serving over 650 children and 250 parents in 9 local schools.
- Supporting the MAVEN Urban Naturalists Program by connecting Northside College Prep High School to grant funding from The Field Foundation of Illinois.
- Partnering with the Chicago Children's Choir to open the group's eighth and newest Neighborhood Choir in Albany Park at North Park University.
- Increasing after school enrichment opportunities and school improvements by establishing partnerships between Palmer Elementary School and Parkway Bank and Trust Company, and Volta Elementary School and Pollo Campero at Lawrence Avenue and Pulaski Road.
- Providing training to Local School Council (LSC) members to ensure our schools have the best leadership.
