Listen. Plan. Take action.
The vision of the Education Committee at the North River Commission (NRC) is to transform our neighborhood schools into the center of their communities and improving learning outcomes for all of our students.
In recent years, NRC has made great strides in this effort. Equipping teachers with the resources necessary in order to implement ambitious learning curriculums and provide funding for after-school enrichment programs. The North River Commission's recent accomplishments in the education sector include:
- Creating the North River After School Collaborative (NRASC). NRC provides after-school enrichment opportunities to area youth, serving over 570 children and 250 parents throughout the NRC community on an annual basis.
- Partnering with regional Universities. NRC connects local elementary schools with colleges from throughout the Midwest in order to decrease student to faculty ratios by screening and selecting highly-qualified student-teachers in order to work with our students.
- Supplying the North River Commission Resource Bank. NRC regularly coordinates projects with the help of the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce in order to meet the specific demands of local educators and to secure the equipment necessary for schools to become innovative places to learn.
- Providing support and training to Local School Councils (LSC). NRC is committed to ensuring that our neighborhood-elected school officials are knowledgeable, effective, and efficient as administrators and as an integral part of Chicago's urban leadership teams.
"The North River Commission understands there is a difference between fixing schools, helping schools, and serving schools ... and the North River Commission is in the business of serving our community's schools."
