North River Commission partnered with the Chicago Park District to host our first summer “Concerts in the Parks” free community concert series in Ronan Park, located at Lawrence Avenue and the Chicago River. The concerts, held on July 30th, August 6th, and August 13th featured a widely diverse representation of music and dance from Albany Park’s multicultural community.
Over 800 community members, elected officials, and concert sponsors enjoyed Latin Jazz music by Picante and Cocinando, Bistro Swing by The Uptown Strings, Folk & Blues music by Ginny Morin & Vitamin X, Traditional music and dance from Veracruz by Son del Viento, Traditional Cambodian music and dance by Khmer Dance & Music Ensemble, and Traditional Guatemalan Marimba music played by youth representing the Guatemalan Cultural Community Organization.
The concert series was generously sponsored by LISC/Chicago, The Joyce Foundation, Pollo Campero, and the Old Town School of Folk Music who provided some of our performers. The concert Honorary Co-chairs were 33rd Ward Alderman Richard F. Mell, 5th District Congressman Mike Quigley, 40th District State Representative Deborah Mell, and 20th District Senator Iris Martinez.
