The Full Nelson – Celebrating Albany Park’s Own Nelson Algren

March is unofficial “Nelson Algren Month” during which local organizations and fans commemorate the celebrated author of  “The Man with the Golden Arm”, “A Walk on the Wild Side”, and “Chicago: City on the Make”.  Algren grew up in Albany Park and attended Roosevelt High School.  Roosevelt has teamed up with the North River Commission to stage an event featuring Tribune investigative reporter Mary Wisniewski, author of the recent award-winning biography, “Algren: A Life.”

You are invited to join this free public event with the author, students and faculty at 4:00 on Wednesday March 27th in the library of Roosevelt HS at 3436 W. Wilson. Park in the lot on the northside of the school and enter through the Main Entrance on Wilson at the intersection with Bernard.  Faculty are coordinating student readings prior to the event and hope to have archival high school materials for on-going display in the library. Please join our celebration of this native son and winner of the first National Book Award.
